JACOB PLOOIJ YOUR VIOLINIST AND COMPOSER
Let me introduce myself: I am Jacob Plooij and my whole life has been guided by music and the medium through which I express it – the violin.
Australian-born and raised, I have been playing the violin professionally since 1991. Having performed extensively with orchestras including the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra and the Australian Chamber Orchestra, I moved to Amsterdam in 2000 to begin my Dutch musical life with the Amsterdam Sinfonietta. I am currently a member of The Frank Bridge Piano Quartet and the Dutch String Collective, a group of independent string players specialized in recording and performing the music that enhances film soundtracks and pop songs with sumptuous string sounds – alongside musical luminaries such as Douwe Bob, Tim Knol, Di-Rect, Ellen ten Damme, Danny Vera, Jacqueline Govaert and Anne Soldaat.
Since 2017, I have also been performing with The Analogues, the renowned band that performs the Beatles albums that were never performed live.
Having been unable to play to audiences during the coronavirus pandemic, I was inspired to develop Opus 143 as a new way to connect with people both musically and on a more personal level. The concept is inspired by composers like Bach, Shostakovich and Schumman who translated names into sounding notes that acted as musical signatures. The name Opus143 symbolises the transformation of names and words into music, giving a lyrical dimension to our core identity. Just as I transform your name into music, the numbers 1 4 3 represent
