Let me introduce myself: I am Jacob Plooij and my whole life has been guided by music and the medium through which I express it – the violin.
Australian-born and raised, I have been playing the violin professionally since 1991. Having performed extensively with orchestras including the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra and the Australian Chamber Orchestra, I moved to Amsterdam in 2000 to begin my Dutch musical life with the Amsterdam Sinfonietta. Shortly after I joined the Zephyr Kwartet performing and commissioning new String Quartet repertoire until 2007. I am currently a member of The Frank Bridge Piano Quartet and the Dutch String Collective, a group of independent string players specialized in recording and performing the music that enhances film soundtracks and pop songs with sumptuous string sounds.
Since 2017, I have also been performing with The Analogues, the renowned band that performs the Beatles albums that were never performed live.
Having been unable to play to audiences during the coronavirus pandemic, I was inspired to develop Music in your name as a new way to connect with people both musically and on a more personal level. The concept is inspired by composers like Bach, Shostakovich and Schumann who translated names into sounding notes that acted as musical signatures. My very personal compositions transform names and words into music, giving a lyrical dimension to our core identity.
